My dear brother C.,<lb>

<p>
I am sending you the letter I received from our niece Elise, it appears that they are doing well. I would also like to spare myself some writing effort, but I feel so badly when I don't hear from my relatives. I often ask my girls if they have received any letters from Madison, Zielin told me that Lelley owed her a letter.<lb>
</p>

We hope that all of you are well, we read that you had a very dry summer.<lb>
</p>
<p>
Our wheat harvest in Minnesota was pretty good, the situation with pasturing and hay is pretty tight right now, yet we have so many reasons to thank God, that we haven't suffered like the people in Montana and Idaho because of the forest fires, so many people have perished and many farms and towns have been burned up. The smoke comes all the way over to us so that the sun has looked more like the moon in the last few days.<lb>

A lot of people are complaining about the business climate lately, but we have been doing as well as we did last year and have no reason to complain.<lb>
</p>

For the time being we are all quite healthy and we are pleased to hear the same about you.<lb>
