This letter was written by John J. Frautschi from New Albion, Butler County, Iowa, and was addressed to his brother Christian in Wagomanie [Mazomanie?], Wisconsin. Johann writes that he hopes to help Christian buy a business in Madison, but cannot promise more than 100 dollars at this time. Christian apparently desires 1,000 dollars, and Johann is willing to borrow to get 200 dollars or more to help.
