Summary:
John Jacob passes along to his brother a letter he has received
from their niece, Elise. He writes of how much he looks forward
to hearing from his relatives. The letter then talks about weather
and the harvest: it was a dry summer in St. Paul, the wheat harvest
was pretty good, but the situation with pasturing and hay is less
optimistic. Still, John Jacob is grateful, and notes that people
in Montana and Idaho are less fortunate because of forest fires
there. He notes that the smoke from these fires is visible even
where he is. He notes that in terms of business, the family is
doing as well as they did the previous year and can't complain.
He notes that the family is all healthy.
